Which Star Wars Blu-ray Should I Buy? Add OTA TV to Your HDTV or Projector. - HD Nation
Which Projector is right for you?
HD TVs seem to be grabbing all of the media attention these days, but projectors are not something you should forget about. A projector can offer a much larger screen than a traditional television, as well as other benefits. For instance, projectors provide a better gaming experience for the Nintendo Wii, as well as other consoles, like the Sony PlayStation and the Microsoft XBox. Projectors also have additional requirements, like a room with very controlled lighting. Projectors are not right for everyone, but they work great for some people. Let's take a look at some factors to consider when choosing a projector.
First off is resolution. Just like a traditional television, projectors can be found in a variety of resolutions, both standard and high definition. You can still purchase standard definition projectors which look acceptable, however generally you will want to go with a high-definition projector, just like you would with a television. This will offer a better picture, at least from sources where it is available.
Another big consideration with projectors is how big your screen will be. Projectors can easily and cheaply get much larger than traditional TVs; however you probably don't want to light up your whole wall. Calculate the screen size you will have and make sure to get a projector that can support a size that big.
A large part of what determines what projectors can go up to what size is brightness. This is measured in lumens. While that probably isn't a metric you are very familiar with, just know that more lumens means a brighter (and generally better) picture. Compare the lumens of different projectors to get an idea of which ones are better.
In addition to brightness, you want to pay attention to contrast ration. This is the ratio of white to black, and it greatly affects the perceived picture quality. Projectors with higher contrast rations will look much better, and can more accurately represent colour.
There are a number of other factors to consider, like the sound system and other accessories that you will be using. We have simply looked at the major factors which affect the projector and picture quality. As with pretty much any electronics purchase, you should compare different products, read reviews, and even look at them in stores when possible. This will make sure that you get the best product possible, and that you will be satisfied with your new projector.

Would you recommend an HD TV or an HD projector?
With an HD projector, do you need any additional special equipment to hook it up to a DVD player or video game systems? Will it play non-HD just fine?
How much more would the recommended one cost?
I heard flat screens vibrate the wall. Is that true?
It depends. You'll probably be able to get a larger screen with an HD projector for a better cost, but they have contrast issues. An HD TV, such as an LCD or plasma, also have different benefits and prices. Plasma's are known to have better contrast ratios (difference between brightest white and darkest black) and good refresh rates (for fast action). LCD's are becoming more popular though. They are not susceptible to burn-ins, their contrast ratios are now on par with plasmas, and their refresh rates are close. I've always said plasmas are good for dark rooms, like basements, and LCD's for general viewing in a living room or where there's a lot of light.
The vibrating thing, no. If they do it's such a minute amount that no one would notice.
