Sony 80" dynaclear screen test
BEST (viewing experience) screen size for this home projector (Bravia)?
I need some help finding out the best screen size for a Sony BRAVIA VPL-AW15 projector.
By BEST I mean the best viewing experience. At a distance of 18' feet what screen size would give the user the best viewing experience?
Extra points if you can tell me what the best SCREEN is as well (matte, white, ect...)
I'm watching primarily DVD movies (16:9)
Viewing conditions = only using at night in completely dark room.
I guess you didn't want to read my answer to your previous question (See link) but most of the answer to this new question is there.
That said, the review at projector central is infomative (see link at previous answer) as is the one at projector reviews (2nd link below). In the latter review there is a section on screen recommendations. In this case a white screen with gain between 1.0 and 1.4 is recommended.
However, unless you use a higher gain screen (and risk compromising the image) the recommended maximum size is about 100". While projectorcentral had good results with a 120" screen reading between the lines this was marginal.
I make a deal about this because at 18' throw distance your screen will have to be much larger than 100" and this projector isn't bright enough to support it.
Anyway .. read the previous answer, read the reviews and make your calculations.
Good luck.
Edit: re the response below ... different projectors rated at the same lumen level give quite different actual light levels when properly calibrated. So a 1000 lumen Epson may be significantly brighter than a 1000 lumen Sony (which are, in general, known as not very bright projectors). Besides, I'm simply quoted a respected review site, and pointed out that two reviews differ somewhat in their conclusions.
