Introducing Sony's First 3D Home Projector VPL-VW90ES

Benefits Of Internet TV

Although Sony and Panasonic are the front runners in internet television, all major TV manufactures have television models that support internet capabilities such as Samsung, LG and Vizio. These brands will also be supporting internet channels such as Yahoo!7.

Internet television offers viewers dozens of sites to watch their favourite shows from. Since you will be able to choose the shows you want to watch, when you want to watch them, both free-to-air and pay TV companies will not have the same hold over their customers like before.

Therefore, even if you do not subscribe to internet television, you may benefit from lowered prices because many people in your area will surely subscribe. Internet television offers shows that you would normally have to pay for, for free, saving a lot of money.

Popularity of Internet Television

Many people have already been caught in the hype of internet television. Broadcasters such as Hulu and Megavideo in the US allow you to log in and download shows when you want to on your computer. However, the one downside is that you can only watch these programs on the small screen of your PC or Mac.

Although you could have a great computer screen, it sometimes is just not the same as viewing your favourite shows on the TV. Now you will be comfortable watching your programs because internet television is finally here. All you have to do is select a show, the season and which episode you want to watch, and the show will be automatically downloaded onto your television from your broadband connection, allowing you to watch it instantly.

Videos Available at the Click of a Button

The amazing part about connecting internet to the television is that you will be able to reach television screens all around the world. Any video that is uploaded onto the internet can now be watched on a TV screen. Just think about how many YouTube videos you had to squint at to see. Now you can download those YouTube videos onto your television and watch them from the comfort of your couch.

Another fantastic element about internet television is that you will have two ways to download your television shows through your internet broadband connection. You can download a 30-minute show for about 50MB with standard view or you can download a show on high quality for 300MB.

The truth is, both are great options to download your shows. Try them out and see which one you like better. You may want to watch some shows in standard view and the others in high quality and every time you download a program, you can select how you want them to be downloaded.

Any reason to pick one projector over the other - Sony, Dell, Mitsubishi (see details for models)?

LCD Sony VPL AW15 BRAVIA Projector
DLP - Dell 1609WX Widescreen Projector
DLP - Mitsubishi HC1500 Projector

I had an Optoma 745EP DLP which was great (until the color wheel died). Are the above projectors at least as good as this one?

I want it for home entertainment ... mainly iTunes downloads played via computer (HD capable given any HD content!), I also use it with an XBox (and had been doing 1080i on the Optoma.)
Prices of these models (with extended warranties ... my last died just out of warranty)

Prices include shipping, tax, & Warranty
Sony - $1220 (5 year warranty)
Dell - $1373 (5 year warranty)
Mitsubishi - $1240 (3 year warranty)

The $1373 is about as much as I can spend.
(Oh and that should say AW10 not AW15 for the Sony.)

Of the three I would rate the Dell least desirable, and the Mitsubish highest ... but that's me.

In brief, my reasoning is that Dell have never had great ratings for home theatre projectors .. they are OK as business models but never quite get it right for HT (e.g. low contrast ratio), and it's the most expensive. Sony projectors can be good, but generally aren't suited to large screens because they are usually not that bright when adjusted for proper colour. That said many like the LCOS design (including me). Reviews of the AW15 (I didn't find one of the AW10) confirm this. The Mitsubishi HC-1500 has been highly rated by reviewers. Some to add to the list: Sanyo PLV-Z4 (if you can find one), and the Optoma HD-70.

Finally, the Benq500 should be considered (See last link for review and comparisons to the Mitsubishi). It's not as good a projector in some ways, but it excels in video processing and it sells for as little as $800.

But there are always pros and cons for any projector and it really comes down to what factors are most important to you (e.g. DLP vs LCD vs LCOS, zoom range, lens shift capability, brightness, contrast, connectivity, sharpness, colour accuracy). I suggest reading the reviews at the sites at the links ... then decide.
