I have a Viewsonic PJ501 projector, can I make a LED replacement lamp? Lamp: RLU-150-001?

I am just tired of shelling out $250-350 for a new replacement lamp every year or so. I know there are some really high powered LED's out there and was wondering if there was a way fool the projector I have a good lamp in there, and if I could wire up about 5-10 of these LED lights utilizing some of the projector's power. Does anyone out there think this is possible? Anyone have the knowledge on how to do this, or at least point me in the right direction. Thanks for any assistance!

Possible ...maybe. Advisable ... no.

If you are really good with electronics and mechanics you may get something to work, but even if you lick the physical and electrical issues I suspect you will have problems focusing the light correctly. In addition, the light "temperature" will be quite different than the original lamp and probably outside the correction range of the projector ... resulting in poor colour accuracy.

If it were that easy projector manufacturers would have already introduced LED powered projectors.
