What is a DVI-D to VGA Converter and What Type is it?
A DVI-D to VGA converter allows you to connect a VGA projector or a monitor to a computer that has a DVI-D video card; using a 15 Pin HD connector. It supports a VGA resolution of 1900x1200, 1600x1200, 1280x1024 and lower. It is HDCP compliant; and best used if you're not interested in replacing your expensive video monitors and display adapters. The various types that are available are DVI-D, DVI-I Single Link, DVI-I Dual Link, and DVI-A.
What this converter basically does is that it allows you to connect computers that have DVI-D single link graphics card to VGA analog monitors. Video converter is a hardware device that permits you to connect a specific format of a video signal to a display of a specific type that it's compatible with. The different types that are available are DVI-D to VGA, VGA to DVI-D, Multi Video Digital Converter, USB to DVI, HDMI DVI Converter. A Multi video digital converter is a bi-directional converter that allows you to connect a TV to PC or PC to TV with VGA/S-Video (4 Pin miniDin)/Composite Video (RCA type) inputs/outputs. USB to DVI converter permits the user to utilize an extra USB port on your computer and connect a DVI video display or projector.
HDMI DVI Converter enables the user with the capability you to use a simple DVI to HDMI converter box to convert DVI to HDMI format. VGA to DVI-D converter is a hardware that permits you to use a VGA Video card to connect a DVI-D monitor and VGA monitor or projector to a computer. VGA to HDMI converter allows you to convert VGA input into HDMI, thereby permitting you to show the image not only on your computer's monitor but also on your HDTV.

Projector with a VGA input?
I have a Projector that I am trying to convert the video into HD with a HDMI cable with a VGA Adaptor, On the projector box it says HD ready, Does that mean that when I hook up the HDMI cable It will be converted into a HD digital signal? Will this work with my projector? The model number is HD-80 Made by Volk Audio.
You should connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI port on the projector, not the VGA port. HDMI is used to transfer a digital High Definition signal that may be protected by HDCP encryption. In order to play a protected video in full High Definition, both the source and the end point have to be connected using an HDMI cable and be HDCP compliant.
If you hook-up a Blu-Ray player to your projector with HDMI, you should be able to play HD Movies. Same goes for other sources like your cable tv set-top box with HD television broadcasts.
If your video source is your computer and it only has a VGA output, you should purchase a new HDCP graphics card that can output HD video through HDMI.
If you have another video source without an HDMI connector, it's possible you may be able to get an analog HD signal using a component cable instead of HDMI depending on whether the device supports HD output through component.
Basically a VGA cable or adapter is not necessary here. You can connect the projector to a VGA video source and you may be able to get an analog HD picture (e.g. from a computer), but HDCP protected video content will not allow be playable in HD over that signal, thus HDMI is recommended.
