Home Theater Room, Suspended Ceiling, I am wanting to use Foam Board instead of Celing Panels?
We live in a older big two story house, and we are going to turn our basement into a home theater room , now, we already have a suspended celign with 2foot by 2 foot ceiling tiles,
I like the looks of the tiles but I want them to be black, Painting is out , I dont want to do it and I dont want to spend alot of $ purchasing black Ceiling tiles
Is there somewhere , where I can get Black Foam Board in 2 foot by 2 foot
I got some at walmart today and it works an dlooks great, its really dark , whcih will make my projector stand out that much more
however it only meausres 20 inches by 30 ,
im needing 24 by 24
it was only $3 , compared to the 8 – 12 bucks for a real black ceiling tile
I don’t know where you are pricing 2′x2′ ceiling tiles for $8-$12 but that is way too high.
We have done several home theatre rooms, and I know you have a limited budget, however here are some suggestions.
Take 1″ rigid styrofoam board and spray paint black or cover with some economical fabric.Don’t glue fabric on face of panels but rather pull fabric tight and let overlap about 2″ on the back – then use hot glue to hold in place on the back.
One home theatre we did was really neat. Take some strands of the small thin led christmas light poke holes from the backside of the painted styrofoam and push the lights into the holes so they just stick out a little. Don’t put the lights too close – you can do this on just the perimeter tiles or at random out in the middle. We chose blue lights.
This gives you just enough light to see before and after the movie. It is really neat and does not cost much. The led lights can be put on a dimmer.
Fabric is a great sound absorber also. Just take a glue gun to glue fabric to styrofoam panels. You have to experiment with the size of panels to allow for fabric so the drop into the gridwork without much hassle.
This looks really good. Touch up any places around the styrofoam holes where lights are with a small artist brush and flat black paint.
