how do I hook up my projector from a coax cable box?

My cable box has cable in & to TV & serial connections on it. My projector has serial, hdmi, pc in, component in Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr, S-video, Video in. How do I also hook up a surround sound system from coax? If I use a VCR will it sound crappy?

Hi there,
If I understood your question right, your cable box doesn’t have any other connections other than coaxial output which you cannot connect to your projector. Sound a bit strange, I never heard such a thing. Since your projector has hdmi then you are capable of wathching High Definition. I would recomend that you get a High Definition box and use it with either Component or HDMI. If the cable box doesn’t come with HDMI output but DVI output, you’ll need to use a little DVI to HDMI adapter cable.
Anyway, you can always use your VCR to get video via composite. Remeber on a big screen it won’t have much detail. With a VCR you can only get 2 channel stereo but it will work if you like it that way. No it will not sound crappy.
Real sourround sound needs 5.1 channels (5 speakers and a subwoofer). The HD box will have either optical out or digital coaxial out which carries the 5.1 channels via single cable to your audio reciever and then to 5.1 channels or more if you want to. But the minimum is 5.1 for true sourrond dolby sound. Something to consider.
