I have a native 4:3 projector that is 16:9 compatible. Do I need a 16:9 screen?

Just ordered an Optoma ES522 projector. 4:3 Native; 16:9 and 16:10 Compatible. Does it make sense for me to buy a 16:9 screen or a 4:3?

If you are purchasing a retractable (collapsing or portable) screen then buy the 4:3. If it is a fixed size (non moving) screen then go for 16×9.

Here is the reasoning.

On a retracting screen you can simply open the screen less and it will become a 16×9 aspect ratio.

If you have a permanent wall mounted screen you can crop the sides with a curtain to turn the 16×9 into a 4×3 in a pinch.

Either way if you buy this way you can get both screen sizes for one price.
