UNBOXING: Pico Projector for the LG eXpo
LG Projector Phone Takes Smart to the Next Level
If a picture is worth a thousand words, LG’s new mobile phone the eXpo, is taking that cliché to a level never seen before in history. As cell phones have become smarter and able to take and display pictures and video, the one advantage of the phone…small size and portability…became a disadvantage due to small screen sizes.
The eXpo removes that limitation with an available projector option that will display anything the phone’s built in screen can display. PC Magazine claims the projector can display up to 120” without distortion, but the official specs claim a conservative 40” size. With an eight foot viewing distance, that’s still pretty impressive.
On top of that, the eXpo is a high functioning Windows Mobile OS phone with a 1 GHz internal processor and a complete touchscreen interface with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
While the business applications of being able to show a presentation, website or graphic on the fly, anywhere seems amazing in itself, the true use is clearly going to be video as entertainment. The phone is an AT&T exclusive and went on sale online only December 7th. AT&T’s website currently lists it as sold out.
At this point, your biggest question may be how much? A new activation gets the phone for $199, after rebate and two-year contract. The projector is a $179 accessory which is currently unavailable, but will be soon. $400 for a powerful business tool makes a lot of sense. $400 for a mobile theater probably doesn’t. We’ll see how that turns out.
The other big question that hasn’t been addressed is how long do the batteries that power the phone and projector last? The phone is equipped with a beefed up 1500 mAh lithium-ion battery. For comparison, my old Instinct had a 1000 mAh battery and could go a day with heavy voice and data use before a recharge was necessary. The projector for the eXpo runs off the phone’s battery, though battery life with projector use has not been discussed in any of my source materials. It seems the extra projector drain has been factored into the battery design. For longer use, the supplied power cord can be used with a 110 AC outlet.
This newest LG mobile phone is certainly taking the “smart phone” concept to a new level. For additional information, you can view all the specs from the official LG site.

does the lg expo come with the projector?
i might get this phone and want to know if it comes with the projector. also is it a good phone?
thankss<3
It does come with a projector. The LG Expo is well designed and boasts a sharp display and excellent QWERTY keyboard. The Windows Mobile 6.5 device also offers Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, and GPS. Its call quality was excellent and the smartphone's general performance was quite snappy. Offering both power and style, the LG Expo is one of the best smartphones for business users on the market today. Now the bad. The smartphone lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack. There's no dedicated Start menu button, often requiring you to use the stylus. We also wish the Expo had a built-in stylus holder.
