Optoma Projector Lamp
If you were going to buy one of the 2 projectors below which would it be? One is DLP and one is LCD?
Epson Powerlite S4 - LCD - $547.00 w/ $50 dollar rebate makes it $497.00

Optoma EzPro 738 DLP - $525.05

I used the S3 on my outdoor setup last year and it looked outstanding. I have sionce brought it indoors for my LR home theater and need a new one for outdoors.
I'm sure the S4 is just as good as the S3, but saw the Optoma and wondered if it would be even better.
thanks!
The previous respondent must be pretty myopic if he's never heard of Optoma ... they are one of the better and best known projector manufacturers.
I have not used either of these models, but the main difference (other than technology) is the contrast ratio. 2000:1 for the Optoma and 500:1 for the Epson, and DVI (digital with HDCP) input on the Optoma and not on the Epson.
This should give a better picture for movies everything being equal ... but requires a dark setting to really show up the benefit.
Given the original list price I'd guess the construction, optics and maybe the scaler would be slightly better quality on the Optoma. The DVI input is a bonus.
Personally, for movies I'd take a DLP over LCD any day. One possible benefit of the Optoma is it gives you two different projectors and you could assign them to whichever setting benefits most (e.g the Optoma could go in the house if you have a light controlled HT)
