how to sound proof a home theatre projector?
my projector makes a very loud high pitch whine (optoma h30). It is celing mounted right above where we sit.
I was thinking of building a sound proof enclosure, however, it needs to be light and also allow air in. I imagine this is going to reduce the effectiveness if I have to leave holes for air flow.
Has anyone done this or have any suggestions?
Two things:
- You may have a failing fan bearing ... in which case it can be replaced.
- If the noise is 'normal' you need to build a 'hush box'. If you Google it you'll find more info.
Edit: Projectors are built to be mounted inverted, so if there is noise from a fan bearing when inverted it is a fault and should be fixed under warranty. While shelf mounting MAY be possible for many (particularly DLP) projectors with limited mounting flexibility there is no choice but to ceiling mount inverted (because of the severe lens offset angle and limited zoom).
