I vacuum the air filter on my projector, to prolong life?

I have a Sony Bravia VPL-AW15 projector earlier, and a "substitute filter is the right message to the screen. I removed the filter and it was disgusting. Unfortunately, I just found while searching online that replacement filters are $ 65.00us! Way too much money at Christmas in a few days. So I carefully removed filter and used my vacuum to aspirate as much as possible of the dust filter (which was pretty clean at this point) and replaced it. The projector seems to accept this as a substitute and is still working. someone else has done this, my TV just explode or something? Does anyone know where find replacement filters for less money? This cost seems incredibly expensive for a bit 'cloth in a plastic!

Yes, it is possible the vacuum. I regularly do, its important to keep it clean, but also contributes to overheating.
