Why will my Optoma HD200x only work when I put it into High Altitude mode?
Hi,
I bought my projector around 6 months ago and it has had some fairly heavy usage. Recently the picture goes funny showing only limited colours and goes flickery after it has been on for about 10 minutes. I can turn it on and off, and it is again ok for about 10 minutes, or I get the fans to kick in by putting it into high altitude mode. It then goes back to normal, but obviously it becomes very noisy... Any ideas? Is it likely that the lamp is going? Is this a sign that it's time to replace it?

Your projector is overheating. This is why it takes a few minutes for it to start messing up.
To be more specific, it sounds as if your fan has died. If you can only get your fan to turn on when switching it on high altitude, then that's not good. You fan should always be on if your projector is on. The only thing the high altitude selector does is speeds up the fan in order to pull more air through for cooling. Since air is thinner at high altitudes, then fan must move faster to move it. This doesn't mean that it shouldn't be moving at all at low altitudes.
Contact the manufacturer to get a replacement fan installed.
