Is it safe to reset the timer on my projector bulb?
I have a Mitsubishi 1500c, and it stopped turning on the other night after showing me the 'replace lamp' message. I looked at the owners manual to see how to replace the bulb, and I noticed that I can reset the timer by holding down -> <- & Power...so I did....and it turns on and works fine with the original bulb. The picture is clear and bright like usual.
Is it dangerous to continue using the original lamp? Will continuing to use it past its life cause an explosion or harm to the projector? I have another bulb ready to go, but the projector is mounted on my ceiling....so I would have to unmount it to get to the bulb.
The lamp timer is more of a guideline for quality, and to warn you that you may want to purchase a replacement bulb before the other bulb completely dies. If you use a bulb past the recommended lifespan, the main drawback would be a gradual loss in brightness.
The bulb assembly and projector should be designed to prevent damage to the projector if the bulb would actually shatter, but as long as you allow the projector to cool down the bulb with its fan after each use, I don't think you should worry about exploding bulbs. You will reset the lamp timer again when you actually put in a new bulb.
