How does using a projector compare to using a large LED TV for watching movies?

can projectors project 1080 quality?

i was thinking about changing a room into a home theatre

Sure, some projectors can display 1080. Others can display even higher definition.

How does a projector compare to an LED TV?
To answer this you should first understand that an LED TV is nothing more than an LCD TV that uses LEDs as back-lighting instead of fluorescent bulbs that standard LCDs use. So your resolution is no better on an LED TV as it is on a LCD TV that doesn't have LED back-lighting. The reason they market them as "LED" TVs is to confuse unsuspecting consumers into believing they need to upgrade.

The only thing that is usually better about an LED TVs picture quality is that the blacks are blacker.

With that said, it's very hard to compare the quality of an LCD TV to that of a projector simply because you can have the best projector in the world and it have a crappy picture if you are using it poorly.

A projector's image is quite dependent on the quality of its viewing invironment. The darker the lighting, the better the picture. So if you have a room that lets in light, it will not be as good. How bed will it be? That all depends on how much ambient light you have and the brighness of the projector.

Also, a projector needs to be viewed on a nice projection screen to get the best picture. If you decide to simply paint the walls white or light grey, then your picture will not be as good.

So a projector is more dependent upon the variables within it's environment, while a TV isn't. However, you can obtain a much larger image with a projector. And if you take the time to do it right, can have a better quality.
