How to get an LCD projector to not show black as a dark gray.?
I wanted to project a star field to simulate the illusion in the Tower of Terror ride at Disneyland, but when I projected the star field video, the projector I was using projected the black background on the video as gray, and lit up the room with it. (The room was pitch black before the projector turned on).
Needless to say it ruined the illusion.
My question is... Do newer projectors have an adjustment I can do or make, to make the black not project, and just have the stars project and nothing else!?
it will be difficult if you could even achieve it black is one of the hardest monotones to reproduce on an LCD. The reason is because the LCD panel needs to have all the colors stack to block out the light creating black or a lack of light dark gray and dark blue are common results, Some of the more advanced (aka the more expensive) LCD projectors or tvs have black enhancers to get a deep black but then if your using it on movies with dark backgrounds you get too much black. If you replace the projector go with DLP look for one with gray on the color wheel for black and other dark colors
