Should I buy a projector?
I own a 42" Sharp Aquos 1080p LCD with the digital lighting system, I love the quality but I have convinced my wife to let me have a "man room" in the house lol It is a 14 foot by 14 ft room with only one small window. whic could easily be covered. I am really wanting to buy a projector, with a 100" screen question is though how will it stack up compared to my Aquos. I will only be using it for xbox 360, maybe occasionally a movie. I just wonder if the picture quality will really be high def? also how dependable are they? lifespan?
I love my projector....100" diagonal is almost a sheet of plywood......so it may be a little big. I think you would be happy with a 720p projector....just make sure that the native aspect ratio is 16:9.......although many projectors will say that they are HD-Ready......you'll have a letter box effect, and wasted resolution if the projector isn't NATIVE 16:9.......if the spec sheets don't have this you can figure out the aspect ratio by looking at the native resolution.
As for life span....most projectors boast a 2000 to 3500 hour lifespan (thats the half-life based upon the lamps lumen output)......the bulb should last longer than that as long as you keep the area ventilated to the point that heat doesn't build up and ruin the lamp......the lamps should last a year or two with light to normal use.....if you leave the projector, heater, receiver, etc. turned on with the door shut, odds are that you have overheated your bulb if the thing doesn't turn on anymore.
I guess, I would just expect to have to buy a new bulb once a year or two.......mine is about $400 to replace.
