3D Glasses: Working and the Concept Behind Its Working
3D glasses have been around from a really long time but we hardly ever cared. Don't you remember the View Master that was quite popular in 1930's and was one of the most common of the toys with the kids decades back? May be you aren't aware but it was one of the first equipments that worked like the present day 3D glasses.
If you have watched 3D movies surely you have used the special glasses but have you ever cared how they work? Perhaps you cared and this is why you are reading this article! Well, 3D glasses work along with the 3D movies in a special way that creates a kind of illusion for your brain and eyes which then lets you view a three dimensional image.
If you want to view an image in 3D it is essential for your eyes to view a little different picture. And to have it done your eyes are spaced apart which leads to a slightly different view by the eyes. The two pictures that each of the eyes view individually are then put together by the brain. Thus, the image you get to see turns into a 3D image with certain depth.
This is the same concept on which View Master or a stereoscopic viewer works. This concept actually utilizes the natural binocular vision system of human beings. This vision system lets us know quite easily and accurately how far away any object is placed. If we look at the thing with one eye we'll still be able to make out the distance but with diminished accuracy where as looking at the things using both the eyes will get us more accurate result.
When we look at the thing with our eyes they are seen from slightly different angles or perspective but our brain correlates the images before presenting them to us. 3D glasses also do the same they present the images to our individual eyes from slightly different angle which are then correlated by our brain before we can finally see them.
Systems Used: the two common systems used by the glasses to provide us with the adventure of 3D movies are:
Polarization: At several 3D venues like Disney World, Universal, etc. polarized lenses are used. These are expensive but highly efficient 3D viewing lenses as they let you view the film in color. In this method two polarized views are projected on a screen by two synchronized projectors. Now when you wear the glasses only one image enters into your individual eyes, this happens because the lenses of the glasses are also polarized.
Red-Green / Red-Blue Glasses: When you watch 3D movies on a TV screen, polarized glasses don't help and therefore, you need to wear either Red-Green or Red-Blue glasses. In this case, two images, one in red, and the other in blue or green are displayed on the screen. At the same time, the Red-Green/Red-Blue glasses that you wear have special filters that let only one image enter in your individual eyes and the rest of the work is done by your brain. But these glasses don't get you a very good quality picture as the polarized glasses get.
There are other sophisticated systems also that allow you to view 3D movies but they are quite expensive and not very easily available. One such system is LCD glasses. These glasses keep blocking the view of your eyes in rapid succession and bring you a high quality colored viewing.

Car Headlight Modification?
Anywhos... I was thinking aboout modding my cars bright beams to work as video projectors I plan to use a small lcd and lense to broadcast the image from both headlamps. I was curious if anyone has ever heard of anything like this....
Well LCD Projection is tried and true as well. With the proper lens and LCD Screen as well as a modified headlight bulb to produce enough light. Powering the unit it not a problem as I am capable of running a secondary car power system that is rechargeable.
I don't think it will work for you . Years ago my friend and I made home made large screen TV's using a 12 or 13 inch color TV Using Fresnel lens. We cut circles out of two square Fresnel lens aprox.1/16" thick by 7" dia and made the tube out of heavy duty carpet center rolls aprox.1/2" thick by 12" Long We then made a cover for the TV with a & " cut out for the lens. But we also had to reverse the picture on the TV and also turn the horizontal picture. upside down. And this is done by changing the black and white and red and yellow wires to the yoke of the tV. You do this by cutting the black wire and the white wire and reconnecting the white to the black and the black to the white. Same goes for the red and yellow wires. This will reverse the picture and turn it upside down . What you end up seeing on the screen is the left side is now on the right. And the top in now on the bottom and the bottom is now on the top. .You do this so when you project the picture everything is right side up and normal. Otherwise it will be screwed up looking and it was easy to do .
We were told how to do it by a technician in a TV repair shop. And he told us on the phone . And let me tell you after we got done all this we had a pretty good looking picture we used a sheet to start with and the further back you moved the TV the bigger the picture but you start to lose the definition moving it to far. Also the better the tv the better the picture. We finally made the TV housing out of wood and bought a real screen. We watched it for about 4 years or so with no problems
Our other friends were amazed that it turned out so good. To answer you question I don't see how or what you had in mind. Using car head lights .If in fact it worked at all you would need a a 12 volt battery for a source . I personally think your way all you would get is a bright light on your screen and not even see the little LCD picture.
My way was tried and true. believe me we both sold about a dozen or so. And never had one complaint. All you need is a good 13 inch TV and a good lens. You could even buy a lens from a place called EDMUND'S scientific store located in New Jersey. Get a catalog or go on the net and do a search for it .
Good luck
