Can I upgrade my HD projector to 3d HD projector?

I just bought HD20 Projector from Optoma and was wondering with the 3D player on sale if I can upgrade my projector by upgrading the firmware or is there another way of upgrading it?

I don't believe the HD20 projector from Optoma is upgradeable to 3D, however if you had bought a HD66 instead, it would have been (or at least that is what Optoma said a while back).

You should note that the cheapest 1080p 3D projector I've seen is about $10,000. There are some cheaper ones, but they seem to be limited in resolution, at best 720p.

I'm planning on building my own 3D projection system using two $1200 DLP projectors, polarizers and a silver-based screen. This has the advantage of using polarized glasses (like RealD theaters), these glasses are throw-away cheap and don't require batteries or a wireless IR connection like the commercial shutterglasses do. This method is also relatively cheap compared to the $10,000 option.

It's possible to build one of these theaters yourself now and watch 3D content delivered from your computer's compatible graphics card... but the problem is that I need someone to design and build a custom device that can take a 3D HDMI input signal and split it into two HDMI left and right view outputs for each projector respectively. Otherwise I will only be able to play a limited selection of 3D content and won't be able to hook-up a 3D Blu-Ray player or set-top box for example.
