Is there a way to eliminate projector shadows?

I'm working on a concept for a show. In part of it, I want to have a projector screen behind me, most of the screen will be black, but a small area in the middle will have something projected on it. I've noticed that even when a projector is projecting "black" if you are in the way, you still cast a shadow on the screen. Is there a way to prevent this (just for areas in black)? Could I put a tinted sheet of glass in front of the projector? Would that still project the color, while making the black actually black?

Oh, here's a little info for the setting: The projector screen is white, but all the lights in the room will be off. So, if I can get the projector to not project "black" on the areas that I want to actually be black, they will look black. Thoughts?

Get a set up that projects from behind the screen. Then it won't matter where you stand.
