DLP technology
DLP Projectors?
I am considering purchasing a projector to use for movies/entertainment. I have heard that DLP technology produces a "rainbow" effect. What is this problem, and should I avoid DLP? What is the best technology to go with? I don't want to get into the very high priced models, lower to middle would work. Thanks for the help.
The "rainbow effect" is caused by the spinning color wheel....it's normally seen when you shift your eyes from the video to some other object in the room...your friend, your beer, your popcorn...
It only occurs for a split second....
With that said, you can rest easy because the NEWER DLPs that use the LED or LASER lamps DO NOT NEED the color wheel at all...they use 3 separate color lasers or LEDs and 3 separate DMD micromirrors to create the 1080P picture...
Those are just new this year...so you'll pay Dearly for that new technology and may have to deal with some new bugs in that new technology....
I'd wait 2 years...that's when the technology finally gets debugged.
For now, I'm using older more reliable technology...I bought a CRT projection TV for $800 at Circuit City and it's 1080i picture is just as HD as the newer $2500 1080P TVs out there...
I'll soon buy the Toshiba HD-DVD model HDA2 and have that same picture as a 1080P TV has.....The P and the I is the only difference and you won't see any difference with your eyes....just your wallet...
But you'll have bragging rights...
And I'll have the Best Bang for the Buck rights....
