What would be the better buy: Runco VX-1000c or a new DLP projector?
Hi, I am new to projectors, and I am looking to purchase one..
I am looking at a Runco VX100c, it was a very nice projector, but that was 8 years ago.
I am also looking at getting a new projector, for around $700.. Would I be better off to buy the old Runco, or go for a new projector? Is there that much differece in technology? Thanks for ny help.
Runco builds a excellent projector, and has always been the projectors to beat. Although you can get these older models pretty cheap now, for not much more the newer projectors are very reasonably priced and offer much better performance. In more resent years TV and projector technology has improved significantly and prices have come down to very affordable price ranges. For instance the Panasonic AE4000 the quality of picture you get from this model would have cost you over 10k a few years ago, now its down to 2k. I was always a huge fan also of the barco data 600 data crt projector, but the new models are so much better and significantly cheaper.
Now the only projector in the sub 1k price range seems to be the Optoma hd20 it is a true 1080p projector and from the reviews seems to offer a pretty darn good picture.
Don't forget about the importance of the screen. A good screen is not cheap and will make a huge difference in the quality of picture you ultimately will get. A good screen honestly will cost you more then the projector but maybe that's something you can upgrade as your budget allows. If so Stewart film screens is the only screen worth getting.
Also don't forget about getting a good video calibration disc like the video essentials blu-ray DVD which will help you get the best pictures possible.
