Projector Screen, How To Make Your Own for the Mobile DJ
What are DJ Lasers?
Chances are when you have gone to a nightclub and there is a DJ playing, there is a light show to accompany the music. These are known as DJ lasers and are controlled by the DJ from wherever they are located.
A laser is a narrow beam of light and it remains bright due to this fact. The size and brightness of the beam is determined by the wattage behind the beam. The more the wattage behind the beam, the brighter and the wider the beam will end up being.
There is also a controller that the DJ uses to control the laser and to get it to create different effects such as beams, graphics or patterns. They send a signal to the projector to tell it how move the beam. There are some systems that have a dedicated computer to handle the imagery that the DJ lasers can handle.
When it comes to the different systems that are out there for DJs to use, there are many options in regards to sophistication, programmability as well as brightness. You may think that the more power a laser has, the better it is, but the lasers get brighter there is more of a risk of eye injury. For this reason, there is a laser system rating of 5mw of power with two different ratings and rules. Under 5mw you do not need to have a license to operate but over 5mw a license is required. If you purchase an imported system, they likely do not meet these requirements and can be dangerous.
You may wonder how DJ lasers can be good if they are a lower rating, but it is all about how you use them. Using multiple lights instead of one is more impressive – think about the lights on a house, which is better? Use the best controller you can as they can handle more motion and variety which is what entertains people. If possible, add a graphics controller to make the lasers more complex and intricate when projecting onto a screen. If you still do not feel this is enough, get a license and a certified system.
