A ceiling mount lets you hang up your TV in the same way as you may have seen in the bar, shopping mall or airport and gives you the option to put it anywhere in the room without needing any floorspace. Ceiling mounts are very trendy and are specifically designed and shaped to fit in the corner of the room while still giving you enough space for your screen and equipment.
By keeping aside the debate on the best type of LCD mount, price, and material used, here we are discussing how to install the ceiling mounts rightly. When it comes to installation TV mounts, the procedure is pretty similar. In fixed TV installation; size, weight, and form factor are less important than in a portable. But on ceiling mount, lighter and smaller TVs are easier to install. At the time of installation, the position and height is the key consideration.
The necessary procedure for installing all mounts is the same: like attaching the mounting hardware to the ceiling, connecting the TVs Screen to a bracket and then connecting the bracket to the ceiling mount. First of all, mark the desired mounting spot on the ceiling, taking into account the height so that the TV screen will be at the perfect height from the mounting position. Before fixing the screen position, it’s a good idea to hold the TV screen in place, and ensure that TV screen is offering you comfort and great viewing angle. If you have a high ceiling, invest in a TV ceiling mount with an adjustable pipe column in order to drop the projector as low as necessary while keeping it out of the way.
After fixing Tv screen to the ceiling, it's time for the finishing touches. First, wire the TV screen to your home theater system. You'll have at least two, and perhaps three or four, cables to connect: power and component audio/ video cables, and signal receiving cable. Unless you're installing an outlet in or near the ceiling, you'll need a longer power cord and, most likely, longer-than-normal interconnects cables. After making last adjustment in wiring system, make sure that all wires are properly fixed and there is no extra parts hanging. Finally, work through the LCD TV setup and menu systems to check the viewing angle according to your sitting position in the room.

trying to wall/ceiling mount a desktop projector?
I have a Proxima DP5900 desktop projector. The only way to get a big enough picture (I have a 84"x84" screen) is to mount it to the wall/ceiling.
anybody have any ideas?
I am thinking about hanging it from the ceiling (like a flower pot) and also mounting it to the wall.
I might connect a piece of plywood to a 2x4 and make a hanging basket from it (just to take some of the weight off of the ceiling)

You don't want it hanging from a single rope or cable as this will allow it to rock or wobble.
I would suggest a 3/4 inch thick plywood shelf hanging from the ceiling with metal supports on each corner.
I would guess that an electronics store might sell something like this ready to go but it will probably be a bit expensive.
If you go for the wall hanging I'd use a set of adjustable shelf supports that mount to a pair of rails that attach to the wall. These are available from hardware stores, my shelves use this system and it came from Lowes.
In the end you whichever system you pick it will be important that it be stable and attractive. Take your time and don't rush.
