Purchasing the Best Projector Bulb

It is very important for you to know the right time to change the projector bulb before it will burn out. Projector is now getting popular since it will be an essential element for both professional and individual environments worldwide. And it is projector bulb that has a significant part responsible for the transfer of images that are from a multimedia projector to an enlarged screen for viewing. Some recent models can display the screen of the laptop computer such that it can be viewed by the large number of people.

The Types of Projector Bulb

They can be divided into three groups: for the first group is the slide projector, the second is overhead projector and for the last is a multimedia projector.

The slide projector bulb comes with a specialized area for 35 millimeter slides. This is good for your needs. The pictures of individual slide is enlarged and after that projected upon a large screen.

For the second is the overhead projector. This is a favorite in the classroom situations and uses a diachronic reflector. This kind of projectors is usually made with the flat base underneath a brilliant light bulb. It also uses an incandescent light with a reflective coating that is cooled by fan.

For the last is multimedia projector. It generally makes use of the xenon arc lamp. This projector is popular in the conference room and also home theaters. It has been in use for sometime and depends upon highly compressed xenon gas in order to function properly.

Since every projector needs a specific bulb, it is important for you to determine the availability of the replacement for its bulb. That is why, since the projector is available in literally hundreds of types, you have to know how to identify the right bulb that will fit with your projector. It is not difficult task, but you have to know the right numbers.

What do i need to check (Throw Distance, Contrast Ratio) when buying a Home Theater Projector?

What are the important things i need to know/check to buy the best suitable Home Theater Projector for a room.

Many of the parameters are interrelated, so you need to understand how and choose accordingly.

In general you need to decide on the room first, then the screen size and aspect ratio, and the projector last.

Given you have a room in mind, you need to first decide on your viewing position. This gives you a distance to the screen, and then you can decide how big the screen should be (and the aspect ratio). See the 1st link for a calculator ... but read the info on the site first so you can factor in YOUR viewing preferences.

Once you know the screen size (and know it will fit the room height -- the screen should be mounted so that your eye when seated is 1/3 to 1/2 the height of the screen above the bottom edge) you can consider where to mount the projector.

The mounting location may be critical (particularly if the projector doesn't have vertical or horizontal offset and/or limited lens zoom range) or a severe angle. See the 2nd link for reviews and further info on this.

Personally, I favor a rear shelf mount, but to do so requires a projector with the capacity to project an image that will fill the screen from the back of the room (and preferably without the lens zoom having to be at either extreme). And the shelf needs to be adjustable unless the projector has vertical offset. But whatever mounting position (table, shelf, ceiling) you decide on, the interrelationship of screen and projector position is important.

The control of ambient light in the room is important. If you don't have good light control, or intend to watch with some lights on, brightness is important. In a dark room a 700 lumen projector may be enough, but with ambient light you may need 2-3000 lumens to avoid a washed out image.

Contrast ratio is an almost meaningless spec (see 3rd link), but in general the higher the better ... as long as you have good ambient light control. If not, anything more than about 2000:1 will be wasted (see 4th link).

Finally, you should consider convenience/user characteristics and factors that influence image quality (and which are most important to you since all projectors are stronger or weaker on different factors). The former include physical size, input flexibility, menu structure and fan noise. The latter group include resolution (higher is preferable, but increases cost), black level & shadow detail, sharpness, colour accuracy, image noise.

If any of the terms are unfamiliar read up on them so you understand how they relate. The reviews and articles at the 2nd link and elsewhwere on the site of the 3rd link will prove useful.

More complicated than you thought?

Anyway, hope that helps.
